Medi Peels - FAQs
What are peels?
Peels are a way of resurfacing the skin by removing the top layers to stimulate collagen production and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
Which peel is best for me?
The best peel for you is the one that is best suited to your skin and the problems that you want to address whilst keeping side effects to a minimum. When you come for your consultation, this will be fully discussed with you and the right peel regime will be selected.
Do I need to prepare for a peel?
Ideally, the skin should be prepared for at least 2 weeks prior to the peel. Skin preparation should include the use of retinoic acid (Refine 4% from CosMedix) and a lightening agent (Lightening from CosMedix). This will leave the skin primed for penetration of the peel, accelerate the healing process and reduce the post-peel complications such as hyperpigmentation.
CosMedix has developed a pre-peel kit specifically to prepare the skin for a peel. This is a 4-product take-home kit that is used everyday for at least 2 weeks prior to the peel to prepare the skin. The pre-peel skin preparation must be carried out uninterrupted for at least 2 weeks before the Timeless peel and the Deep Sea peel can be applied.
Am I suitable for a peel?
You are not suitable for a peel:
• If you are pregnant, have HIV/AIDS or are immunosuppressed.
• If you are taking Roaccutane you must wait 6 months after the end of your therapy before you are suitable for a peel.
• If you have had facial surgery, you must wait 6 months before a peel is safe.
• If you have active cold sores, you should wait until they have healed and discuss with your doctor your suitability for anti-viral treatment before your peel.
What are the side effects of a peel?
The deeper the peel, the higher the rate of complications. Follow all instructions given to you before and after your peel to minimize the side effects.
Common side effects are: minor skin swelling, minor pain, redness and itchiness. Less common side effects include: infection, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, cold sores, demarcation lines, scarring, acne and eye injury.
How much do peels cost?
A tailored program will be designed for you at your consultation. This will be aimed at addressing your areas of concern and improving your skin’s appearance and may incorporate other dermal services including microdermabrasion and specially selected cosmoceuticals. Peels start from only $120.
